WE CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR DEAF INTEGRATION AND INCLUSION IN UGANDA.

Building Communities where Deafness is embraced and Deaf people Included & Integrated.

What We Do

LIDIT is dedicated to creating a society where deafness is embraced, and deaf individuals are integrated as valuable contributors. We have strategically designed programs to promote social inclusion, economic empowerment, and cultural recognition for persons with disabilities, emphasizing the unlocking of their unique abilities and potentials. Through initiatives like the SIGNO Center, we provide essential support such as sign language training, life skills development, and entrepreneurship opportunities tailored to the specific needs of the deaf community.

Social Integration & Livelihood

Increase incomes and life opportunities for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), the families and community of persons with disability to enable them to achieve financial independence and enjoy decent work.

We provide tailored skills training in entrepreneurship, vocational areas, and employability for deaf and PWDs, insuring they have the capabilities to generate sustainable income.

We incorporate financial literacy and resource management Modules to enhance self-reliance and resilience.

Establish Community integration resource centers where deaf individuals can co-create products, services, or solutions, fostering collaboration with the wider community (SIGNO CENTER)

Implement cash-for-work programs and targeted assistance to address immediate financial vulnerabilities while linking beneficiaries to skill-building and entrepreneurship programs.

Inclusive Education

Advance an inclusive, accessible & accelerated quality education program for all learners with disabilities and other disadvantaged groups for better & inclusive education outcomes for sustainable community development.

Equip special education teachers & school administrators with modern tools, methodologies, and knowledge to deliver inclusive and accessible education for learners with disabilities, including the deaf.

Advocacy

At LIDIT, our advocacy work focuses on strengthening community-based, disability-inclusive social protection systems and services. We believe that achieving inclusive and sustainable community development requires eliminating stigma, barriers, and discrimination against persons with disabilities (PWDs) and other disadvantaged groups, such as women and girls. In rural communities of West Nile and throughout Uganda, we are committed to addressing the core issues faced by PWDs, including limited access to education, high unemployment, inadequate healthcare, legal rights issues, social stigma, inaccessible infrastructure, gaps in policy implementation, and the need for access to reproductive health information, particularly for the deaf and their sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHRs). Through our advocacy, we aim to ensure that PWDs are included and supported within their communities.

— Humanitarian Response

LIDIT promotes inclusive humanitarian action and disaster risk reduction, ensuring accessibility for Persons with Disabilities, refugees, and Internally Displaced Persons. We advocate for adaptive technologies, capacity-building, accessible safety measures, and inclusive policies to foster resilience, prioritize rights, and ensure no one is left behind in crisis and disaster responses.

— Capacity Building & Institutional Development

LIDIT strengthens capacity through tailored training and mentorship for staff, Boards of Directors, Disability-Based Organizations, and stakeholders. We empower institutions to champion inclusion, enhance governance, and drive impactful disability-focused initiatives, fostering sustainable growth and collaboration across communities and organizations.
